ISBN: 049591049X | 1136 pages

Alexander and Alexander's bestselling American Public School Law sets the standard for books in educational law, an increasingly vital area of expertise for today's school and district administrators.

Now in its Eighth Edition, this combined textbook/casebook provides an authoritative and comprehensive view of the law that governs the public school system of the United States, including common law, statutes, and constitutional laws as they affect students, teachers, and administrators.

Featuring civil and criminal cases selected from hundreds of jurisdictions and newly updated to reflect the latest legal trends and precedents, the book reviews key laws and relevant court decisions. The case method offers ample opportunity for discussions aimed at discovering and exposing the underlying rules and reasoning, and the text actively encourages readers to relate factual situations to the law while anticipating similar experiences they may have as practicing teachers and administrators.

Written in an engaging and accessible style, American Public School Law (Eighth Edition) explains even complex points of law clearly and effectively for non-lawyers, and the authors maintain a diligent focus on the unique needs of professional educators preparing for successful careers in administration.

Georgian Syntax: A Study in Relational Grammar

By Alice C. Harris
Publisher: Cambridge University Press
Pages: 352, Date: 2009-04-30
ISBN-10 : 052110971X, PDF 6.7 mb

Georgian has sometimes been described as a language that is 'totally irregular', where the notions of 'subject', 'object' and 'indirect object' have no relevance.

Although it is often cited in work on general linguistics, language universals and language typology, no systematic account of the syntax of this morphologically complex language has been available for Western linguists.

Dr Harris's work fills this important need, and indeed her book provides one of the best and most thorough studies available in English of the syntax of a non-Indo-European language.

Working in the framework of relational grammar - a framework that is attracting great interest - Dr Harris shows that Georgian does have constructions found in better-known languages, and the study of individual languages to the development of linguistic theory.

Language Use and Language Learning in CLIL Classrooms

By Dr. Christiane Dalton-Puffer, Tarja Nikula, Prof. Dr. Ute Smit
Publisher :John Benjamins
ISBN:902720523X December 15, 2010
PDF | 305 pages | 5.4 mb

This volume explores a highly topical issue in second and foreign language education: the spreading practice in mainstream education to teach content subjects through a foreign language. CLIL has been enthusiastically embraced as a language enrichment measure in many contexts and finally research can offer principled insights into its dynamics and potentials.

The editors’ introductory and concluding chapters offer a synthesis of current CLIL research as well as a critical discussion of unresolved issues relating both to theoretical concerns and research practice. The individual contributions by authors from a range of European contexts report on current empirical research in this dynamic field.

The focus of these chapters ranges from theoretical to empirical, from learning outcomes to classroom talk, examining both the written and spoken mode across secondary and tertiary educational contexts. This volume is a valuable resource not only for researchers and teachers but also for policy makers.

Introducing Morphology

Cambridge Introductions to Language and Linguistics
By: Rochelle Lieber
publisher: Cambridge University Press
Date : 2010, PDF 13.3 Mb

Morphology is the study of how words are put together. A lively introduction to the subject, this textbook is intended for undergraduates with relatively little background in linguistics. Providing data from a wide variety of languages, it includes hands-on activities such as 'challenge boxes', designed to encourage students to gather their own data and analyse it, work with data on websites, perform simple experiments, and discuss topics with each other.

There is also an extensive introduction to the terms and concepts necessary for analysing words. Topics such as the mental lexicon, derivation, compounding, inflection, morphological typology, productivity, and the interface of morphology with syntax and phonology expose students to the whole scope of the field. Unlike other textbooks it anticipates the question 'Is it a real word?' and tackles it head on by looking at the distinction between dictionaries and the mental lexicon.

PDF books : A Concise English-Interlingua Dictionary + Short Interlingua Grammar and Vocabulary

 Woodruff W. Bryne 1958
A Concise English-Interlingua Dictionary
New York: Storm Publishers. 84 pages. Scanned PDF 13 mb

Plus: Short Interlingua Grammar and Vocabulary, a 4-page leaflet by the British Interlingua Society, 1978, Interlingua is a naturalistic international auxiliary language developed by the International Auxiliary Language Association (members including linguists Edward Sapir and Otto Jespersen) between 1937 and 1951.

The dictionary contains the 6,800 English lexemes and the Interlingua equivalents.
The basic grammar includes a short vocabulary of Interlingua and its English equivalents.

From the Preface:

Interlingua was first introduced with the publication of the Interlingua-English Dictionary (I.E.D.) and the Interlingua Grammar in 1951. Since that time the growing importance of the language as a tool for international communication has created a need for an English-Interlingua Dictionary. Inasmush as a comprehensive companion volume to the I.E.D. is not yet in prospect, this "little" English-Interlingua dictionary is offered as a practical means of filling the immediate need...

It has been included at the end a short grammar explaining the formation and use of verbs, tense, adverbs, adjectives, pronouns, etc., with a short list of Interlingua lexemes with English equivalents.
