Life (Audiobook) By Keith Richards

 By Keith Richards, read by Johnny Depp
Publisher: Hachette Audio 2010 | 21 hours and 57 mins
ISBN: 1600242405 | MP3 | 562 MB

Description
As lead guitarist of the Rolling Stones, Keith Richards created the riffs, the lyrics, and the songs that roused the world. A true and towering original, he has always walked his own path, spoken his mind, and done things his own way.

Now at last Richards pauses to tell his story in the most anticipated autobiography in decades. And what a story! Listening obsessively to Chuck Berry and Muddy Waters records in a coldwater flat with Mick Jagger and Brian Jones, building a sound and a band out of music they loved. Finding fame and success as a bad-boy band, only to find themselves challenged by authorities everywhere. Dropping his guitar's sixth string to create a new sound that allowed him to create immortal riffs like those in "Honky Tonk Woman" and "Jumpin' Jack Flash." Falling in love with Anita Pallenberg, Brian Jones's girlfriend. Arrested and imprisoned for drug possession. Tax exile in France and recording Exile on Main Street. Ever-increasing fame, isolation, and addiction making life an ever faster frenzy. Through it all, Richards remained devoted to the music of the band, until even that was challenged by Mick Jagger's attempt at a solo career, leading to a decade of conflicts and ultimately the biggest reunion tour in history.

In a voice that is uniquely and unmistakably him--part growl, part laugh--Keith Richards brings us the truest rock-and-roll life of our times, unfettered and fearless and true.

They’re all students at a boarding school for “bad kids.” What did Jason do to end up here? And where is here, exactly?

Piper has a secret. Her father has been missing for three days, ever since she had that terrifying nightmare. Piper doesn’t understand her dream, or why her boyfriend suddenly doesn’t recognize her. When a freak storm hits, unleashing strange creatures and whisking her, Jason, and Leo away to someplace called Camp Half-Blood, she has a feeling she’s going to find out.

Leo has a way with tools. When he sees his cabin at Camp Half-Blood, filled with power tools and machine parts, he feels right at home. But there’s weird stuff, too—like the curse everyone keeps talking about. Weirdest of all, his bunkmates insist that each of them—including Leo—is related to a god. Market Risk Analysis: Volume IV: Value at Risk Models

By Carol Alexander
Publisher: Wiley, Pages: 492, Date: 2009-03-03
ISBN-10 / ASIN: 0470997885

Description:
Written by leading market risk academic, Professor Carol Alexander, Value-at-Risk Models forms part four of the Market Risk Analysis four volume set. Building on the three previous volumes this book provides by far the most comprehensive, rigorous and detailed treatment of market VaR models. It rests on the basic knowledge of financial mathematics and statistics gained from Volume I, of factor models, principal component analysis, statistical models of volatility and correlation and copulas from Volume II and, from Volume III, knowledge of pricing and hedging financial instruments and of mapping portfolios of similar instruments to risk factors. A unifying characteristic of the series is the pedagogical approach to practical examples that are relevant to market risk analysis in practice.

All together, the Market Risk Analysis four volume set illustrates virtually every concept or formula with a practical, numerical example or a longer, empirical case study. Across all four volumes there are approximately 300 numerical and empirical examples, 400 graphs and figures and 30 case studies many of which are contained in interactive Excel spreadsheets available from the the accompanying CD-ROM . Empirical examples and case studies specific to this volume include:

* Parametric linear value at risk (VaR)models: normal, Student t and normal mixture and their expected tail loss (ETL);
* New formulae for VaR based on autocorrelated returns;
* Historical simulation VaR models: how to scale historical VaR and volatility adjusted historical VaR;
* Monte Carlo simulation VaR models based on multivariate normal and Student t distributions, and based on copulas;
* Examples and case studies of numerous applications to interest rate sensitive, equity, commodity and international portfolios;
* Decomposition of systematic VaR of large portfolios into standard alone and marginal VaR components;
* Backtesting and the assessment of risk model risk;
* Hypothetical factor push and historical stress tests, and stress testing based on VaR and ETL.

Description:
Written by leading market risk academic, Professor Carol Alexander, Practical Financial Econometrics forms part two of the Market Risk Analysis four volume set. It introduces the econometric techniques that are commonly applied to finance with a critical and selective exposition, emphasising the areas of econometrics, such as GARCH, cointegration and copulas that are required for resolving problems in market risk analysis. The book covers material for a one-semester graduate course in applied financial econometrics in a very pedagogical fashion as each time a concept is introduced an empirical example is given, and whenever possible this is illustrated with an Excel spreadsheet.

All together, the Market Risk Analysis four volume set illustrates virtually every concept or formula with a practical, numerical example or a longer, empirical case study. Market Risk Analysis: Quantitative Methods in Finance Volume 1

By Carol Alexander, Publisher: Wiley
Pages: 320, Date: 2008-06-10
ISBN-10 : 0470998008

Description:
Written by leading market risk academic, Professor Carol Alexander, Quantitative Methods in Finance forms part one of the Market Risk Analysis four volume set. Starting from the basics, this book helps readers to take the first step towards becoming a properly qualified financial risk manager and asset manager, roles that are currently in huge demand.

Accessible to intelligent readers with a moderate understanding of mathematics at high school level or to anyone with a university degree in mathematics, physics or engineering, no prior knowledge of finance is necessary. Instead the emphasis is on understanding ideas rather than on mathematical rigour, meaning that this book offers a fast-track introduction to financial analysis for readers with some quantitative background, highlighting those areas of mathematics that are particularly relevant to solving problems in financial risk management and asset management. Unique to this book is a focus on both continuous and discrete time finance so that Quantitative Methods in Finance is not only about the application of mathematics to finance; it also explains, in very pedagogical terms, how the continuous time and discrete time finance disciplines meet, providing a comprehensive, highly accessible guide which will provide readers with the tools to start applying their knowledge immediately.

All together, the Market Risk Analysis four volume set illustrates virtually every concept or formula with a practical, numerical example or a longer, empirical case study. Across all four volumes there are approximately 300 numerical and empirical examples, 400 graphs and figures and 30 case studies many of which are contained in interactive Excel spreadsheets available from the accompanying CD-ROM . Empirical examples and case studies specific to this volume include:
Principal component analysis of European equity indices;

*Calibration of Student t distribution by maximum likelihood;
*Orthogonal regression and estimation of equity factor models;
*Simulations of geometric Brownian motion, and of correlated Student t variables;
*Pricing European and American options with binomial trees, and European options with the Black-Scholes-Merton formula;
*Cubic spline fitting of yields curves and implied volatilities;
*Solution of Markowitz problem with no short sales and other constraints;
*Calculation of risk adjusted performance metrics including generalised Sharpe ratio, omega and kappa indices.

Strategy Making in a Crisis: From Analysis to Imagination

By Michael Gibbert
Publisher: Edward Elgar Pub Pages: 232, Date: 2010-05
ISBN-10 / ASIN: 1848442408, PDF 1.09 MB

`Michael Gibbert presents a thoughtful theoretical framework allowing readers to critically think about imaginations related to strategy making. His research is based on a highly complex case and diversified context allowing us to understand the use of different theories in an integrated way.'
- Gilbert Probst, World Economic Forum, Geneva, Switzerland

`Putting imagination center stage in strategy making is a long overdue perspective, one that can renew the field. Michael Gibbert makes an important contribution through this integrative framing.'
- Yves Doz, INSEAD, France

`If you can't imagine the future of your company, how are you supposed to shape it? This book helps appreciate and execute imaginative strategy making.'
- Martin Hoegl, WHU Otto Beisheim Graduate School of Management, Germany

Which strategy making approach works best in a crisis? In current literature, the recommendations oscillate between prediction, control, and practice, but this unique book focuses specifically on strategy making in a crisis. In a crisis, the business landscape is neither stable nor predictable, resources are scarce rather than abundant, customers disappear and shareholders revolt, all of which can make prediction and control very difficult. Drawing on evidence from philosophy, and on a multi-year case study of a major multinational, Michael Gibbert points to three different kinds of imaginations and proposes a three-step model for imaginative strategy making.Introducing new topics on this subject, Strategy Making in a Crisis will strongly appeal to top-level managers, including corporate development departments, and business-unit level strategy. Postgraduate students will also receive ideas for their own theses, not only from the content, but also from the approach - which is deductive and integrates management theories using social science literature - and methodology.

At Home: A Short History of Private Life, By Bill Bryson

By Bill Bryson, Publisher: Doubleday
Pages: 544, Date: 2010-05-27
ISBN-10 : 0385619170, RAR-ed PDF 2.1 MB

Description:
From one of the most beloved authors of our time—more than six million copies of his books have been sold in this country alone—a fascinating excursion into the history behind the place we call home.

“Houses aren’t refuges from history
. They are where history ends up.”

Bill Bryson and his family live in a Victorian parsonage in a part of England where nothing of any great significance has happened since the Romans decamped. Yet one day, he began to consider how very little he knew about the ordinary things of life as he found it in that comfortable home. To remedy this, he formed the idea of journeying about his house from room to room to “write a history of the world without leaving home.” The bathroom provides the occasion for a history of hygiene; the bedroom, sex, death, and sleep; the kitchen, nutrition and the spice trade; and so on, as Bryson shows how each has figured in the evolution of private life. Whatever happens in the world, he demonstrates, ends up in our house, in the paint and the pipes and the pillows and every item of furniture.

Bill Bryson has one of the liveliest, most inquisitive minds on the planet, and he is a master at turning the seemingly isolated or mundane fact into an occasion for the most diverting exposition imaginable. His wit and sheer prose fluency make At Home one of the most entertaining books ever written about private life.

Audiobooks For Rework

By Jason Fried and David Heinemeier Hansson
Publisher: Random House Audio; Unabridged edition (March 9, 2010)
ISBN: 0307704513,

Seth Godin is the author of Linchpin, Tribes, The Dip, Purple Cow, All Marketers Are Liars, and Permission Marketing, as well as other international bestsellers. He is consistently one of the 25 most widely read bloggers in the English language. Read his exclusive Amazon guest review of Rework:
This book will make you uncomfortable. Depending on what you do all day, it might make you extremely uncomfortable.

That's a very good thing, because you deserve it. We all do.
Jason and David have broken all the rules and won. Again and again they've demonstrated that the regular way isn't necessarily the right way. They just don't say it, they do it. And they do it better than just about anyone has any right to expect.
This book is short, fast, sharp and ready to make a difference. It takes no prisoners, spares no quarter, and gives you no place to hide, all at the same time.
There, my review is almost as long as the first chapter of the book. I can't imagine what possible excuse you can dream up for not buying this book for every single person you work with, right now.
Stop reading the review. Buy the book.--Seth Godin
--This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

Don't Make Me Think: A Common Sense Approach to Web Usability, 2nd Edition

By Steve Krug, Publisher: New Riders Press
Pages: 216, Date: 2005-08-28
ISBN-10 : 0321344758, tar.bz2 > pdf  | 3.1 MB

Description:
Five years and more than 100,000 copies after it was first published, it's hard to imagine anyone working in Web design who hasn't read Steve Krug's "instant classic" on Web usability, but people are still discovering it every day. In this second edition, Steve adds three new chapters in the same style as the original: wry and entertaining, yet loaded with insights and practical advice for novice and veteran alike.

Don't be surprised if it completely changes the way you think about Web design.
Three New Chapters!
* Usability as common courtesy -- Why people really leave Web sites
* Web Accessibility, CSS, and you -- Making sites usable and accessible
* Help! My boss wants me to ______. -- Surviving executive design whims

"I thought usability was the enemy of design until I read the first edition of this book. Don't Make Me Think! showed me how to put myself in the position of the person who uses my site. After reading it over a couple of hours and putting its ideas to work for the past five years, I can say it has done more to improve my abilities as a Web designer than any other book.

In this second edition, Steve Krug adds essential ammunition for those whose bosses, clients, stakeholders, and marketing managers insist on doing the wrong thing. If you design, write, program, own, or manage Web sites, you must read this book." -- Jeffrey Zeldman, author of Designing with Web Standards

Cardiology Essentials in Clinical Practice

By Gabriel A. Adelmann
Publisher: Springer, Pages: 690, Date: 2010-10-29
ISBN-10 / ASIN: 1849963045

Description:
This is a general cardiology handbook that addresses the entire cardiological pathology. The information is in a Q&A format and accompanies the reader through each significant condition, from incidence and severity, to mechanisms, clinical and lab diagnosis, and up to treatment and prognosis.

The chapters have an uniform structure fostering a methodical approach to heart disease. The level is intermediate, with an accent on clinical practice.

At the same time, an excellent tool for preparing for exams, as i) disease mechanisms are systematically discussed; ii) guidelines are explained and summarized; iii) novel resarch directions are explained.

 The book provides conciseness, completeness, and updatedness, while offers: for residents, familiarization with the discipline of cardiology; for cardiology fellows, the book will be a friendly companion for practice and Boards study; for primary care physicians, the book represents an update to their knowledge; while for clinical cardiologists, the book represents a companion reference.

About this book
Being a cardiology fellow is one of the most daunting commitments one can make as a physician. The stressful and intensive work schedule is followed by long hours of study in an ever-expanding field, making it occasionally challenging to master both classical teachings and cutting-edge developments. Graphically memorable tables and schematics are one of the most useful tools for making sense of the profusion of guidelines, textbooks, and medical papers. The Cardiology Essentials in Clinical Practice provides these tools to those learning the practicalities of cardiology, whether as residents, fellows, or internists. In conjunction with the concisely conceived text, the tables and figures provide a comprehensive clinical picture of each condition, while reviewing key specific details. The text and tables have been grounded in the existing practice guidelines, while incorporating the results of the latest clinical trials. Key trials and resources have been outlined in the text and bibliography to facilitate follow-up on the issues of interest, making this manual an invaluable tool in the quest for a wide-ranging, yet precise knowledge of cardiology.

Relativistic Quantum Mechanics (Theoretical and Mathematical Physics)

By Armin Wachter, Publisher: Springer
Pages: 400, Date: 2010-12-17, ISBN-10 : 904813644X
rared pdf with cover+bookmarks, size 3.224 MB

Description:
Which problems do arise within relativistic enhancements of the Schrödinger theory, especially if one adheres to the usual one-particle interpretation? * To what extent can these problems be overcome? * What is the physical necessity of quantum field theories? In many textbooks, only insufficient answers to these fundamental questions are provided by treating the relativistic quantum mechanical one-particle concept very superficially and instead introducing field quantization as soon as possible. By contrast, this book emphasizes particularly this point of view (relativistic quantum mechanics in the ''narrow sense''): it extensively discusses the relativistic one-particle view and reveals its problems and limitations, therefore illustrating the necessity of quantized fields in a physically comprehensible way. The first two chapters contain a detailed presentation and comparison of the Klein-Gordon and Dirac theory, always with a view to the non-relativistic theory. In the third chapter, we consider relativistic scattering processes and develop the Feynman rules from propagator techniques. This is where the indispensability of quantum field theory reasoning becomes apparent and basic quantum field theory concepts are introduced. This textbook addresses undergraduate and graduate Physics students who are interested in a clearly arranged and structured presentation of relativistic quantum mechanics in the "narrow sense" and its connection to quantum field theories. Each section contains a short summary and exercises with solutions. A mathematical appendix rounds out this excellent textbook on relativistic quantum mechanics.
